When ZAG set out to define its values – and by extension, its culture – there were employees who had several years with the company to contribute. The values include integrity foremost, client-centered, accountable always, teamwork throughout, and exceptional the goal. For the last 13 years, C.J. Morgan has embodied these values, most recently contributing to the ZAG team as Senior Database Administrator/Architect in our Business Applications Department.
As we begin promoting the amazing talent we have at ZAG, we’re introducing C.J., a valued member of the ZAG team:
Where are you based?
Kuna, Idaho
What are some of your recent certifications and training?
MCSE SQL 2008 Database Administration
How did you get your start in the technology industry?
Working at Easyriders Magazine (Paisano Publications, Inc.).
Why did you decide to join ZAG?
I worked with two people at FedEx in San Jose who left the company to join ZAG. When FedEx decided to close their San Jose office, one of them asked if I was interested in interviewing with ZAG to become a database administrator. I came in, interviewed with CTO Jim Hunton, and got the job. The rest, as they say, is “history.”
What are the responsibilities you have in your role at ZAG?
During the first nine years of my career at ZAG, I was the only Database Administrator, so I was responsible for anything that had to do with databases (Microsoft SQL Server in particular). This became especially true for one of our major accounts and as of today, alongside my other DBA partner, we have built/managed/recovered all of the databases and SQL instances for this client.
Who has supported you in your role?
President Greg (Gatzke) and Jim have always been very supportive – especially with training and giving me the opportunity to pursue my career as a DBA, which is something that was lacking in my previous role. I’ve also learned a lot alongside my colleagues on the DBA team as we navigated recoveries for major clients through the years.
Where do you see the potential for growth for women in the industry?
Coding. Though not my forte, it involves a lot of logical thinking which lends itself well to women.
And a personal question to get to know C.J. a little better…
What do you like to do for fun outside of work?
Since my stepkids are grown up, my husband and I enjoy riding his Triumph Tiger and attending/watching Nascar races.
